Q + A

Why Oaxaca?

Marianna's family is from Mexico (mainly located in Mexico City) so we always knew we wanted to get married in Mexico. Oaxaca embodies Mexican culture! There is no better place to share a unique, memorable, and truly Mexican experience with all of our friends and family. See our 'Things to Do' and 'Food and Drink' pages for our recommendations.

Where can I find wedding weekend details?

The home page of the website houses all wedding event details - this includes event location, day/time, and dress code.

How/When do I need to RSVP?

Please RSVP through our website (via the RSVP tab) no later than October 1st. You can find event details on the home page.

When should I arrive in Oaxaca?

The wedding is on Sunday, January 19th (with the MLK holiday on Monday 1/20). We will have a Welcome Party for all guests on Saturday evening. We recommend that the wedding party arrives no later than Friday morning, and for everyone else to arrive no later than Saturday morning to participate in all wedding events. To fully experience Oaxaca and what it has to offer, we recommend 3-5 full days.

Where should I stay?

We have a hotel block at Quinta Real where you can stay at a discounted rate. If you choose to stay at another hotel or rental, it is recommended you stay in or near 'el Centro' (downtown Oaxaca) for accessibility. See our 'Stay' page.

Will transportation be provided?

Transportation will be provided the day of the wedding. Shuttles will pick up guests at the Quinta Real Hotel at 3:30pm sharp and will run all evening/night for drop off back in el Centro.

Should I get a rental car?

Not recommended - parking is difficult downtown and most attractions are walkable if you stay in el Centro. Should you need transportation, taxis are very accessible at a low rate. You can book a cab or book personal transportation if you want to venture outside of the city (see our 'Travel' page for more information).

What's the weather like in Oaxaca?

January is the 'coolest' month in Oaxaca with evening temperatures dropping in the 50s. During the day, it is very warm and can get up to the low 80s. Please note that all events are outdoors.

Where else should I travel in Mexico if I want to extend my trip?

MEXICO CITY: If you have not yet visited, we can't recommend it enough! Most flights from the US require that you connect in Mexico City. THE OAXACAN COAST: Puerto Escondido and Huatulco are beautiful, Pacific Ocean beach towns that are less mainstream than your typical Cancun or Tulum. See our 'Things to Do' page for more info. OTHER: The Oaxacan airport is small so there are limited direct flights - you can fly directly to places like Cancun or Merida (they are also adding direct flights to Tulum), or connect in Mexico City to reach other Mexican destinations.

Is Oaxaca safe?

Despite the mainstream media's narrative on Mexico and its safety, Oaxaca is one of the safest regions in the country. Feel free to ask us questions or do your own research separately, but we would not invite family and friends somewhere where they are in danger. As you would anywhere you travel, it's always important to follow standard safety precautions and use common sense.

MEXICO CITY AIRPORT TIPS

If you're connecting in Mexico City, they won't assign you a gate until 45 minutes-1 hour before your flight. Arrive at the gate early, we have personally missed a flight out of Mexico City because boarding is a much quicker process than in the US. Be attentive at the gate because boarding announcements can be difficult to hear.

Any other tips for visiting Mexico/Oaxaca?

BRING PESOS. DRINK BOTTLED WATER ONLY! DOWNLOAD WHATSAPP (to communicate with taxis and hotel).

Are children welcome to the wedding events?

Adults only please! If you need a babysitter, let us know in advance and our wedding planner can provide recommendations.

How do I know if I have a Plus One?

If your formal invitation is addressed to you and your significant other, or says "and guest", you have a plus one.

What's the Dress Code?

For the Welcome Party on Saturday, the dress code is 'Festive Dressy Casual'. We encourage bold and/or bright colors and patterns. Wear comfortable or walkable shoes if you're joining for the Calenda (street parade) prior to the Welcome Party. For the Wedding on Sunday, the attire is 'Formal' -- Guys: suits, or slacks and a jacket (tie-optional) will work. Girls: midi to floor-length dresses, comfortable heels or flats, and encourage you bring a shawl in case it gets chilly at night. Please visit the home page where we have more attire details under each event.
